Teachers & Children’s Theater Directors!
Take Me With You When You Go is also a lively, easy-to-stage play. The middle-elementary classroom and readers’ theatre versions run about 40 minutes. The children’s theatre version runs about an hour.
Please freely download these Word files, and let us know you did. Then contact us know if you’d like to stage it. Any performance does require prior permission from One Monkey Books but will generally be granted free for school-based performances. The playwright will be happy to collaborate with you to tailor performance length or other changes to your needs,
The classroom play has been performed twice. It was premiered in 2007 by the third grade class of Novato Charter School (Novato, California) directed by Laurie Marshall. Laurie will be glad to share suggestions about putting on the play.
Novato Charter is a public, Waldorf-inspired school. Laurie proposed that the students perform the play after reading the book to them last spring. They discussed the story, wrote about it, painted it, and then performed it.
She says, “The third grade curriculum focuses on children taking a major step in their self-reliance as they turn nine. Take Me With You portrays children who are heroically in the world on their own. The play was a perfect fit.”
Roles in the play include “living”marionettes, a pile of sawdust and a host of odd aunts and uncles. In addition to acting, the Novato Charter actors sang and played the theme song on recorders.
